Cold War Museum Underground Command Post «Taganskiy»
After going down on a speed elevator to the depth of 65 meters (equals to the height of 22-stores building), you will find yourself inside one of the most restricted military objects of the USSR – Secured Command Post «Taganskiy» (GO-42)
Construction of SCP «Taganskiy» started in 1951. 5 years later, in 1956 an enormous object ranging 7000 m2 was approved by governmental authorities. Department for National Security of the USSR took the object under its strict control in order to provide round-the-clock communication for the leaders of the state in case of nuclear attack.
Each day 2500 workers on this object supported the proper functioning of the telephone and telegraph communication of the country.
In sixties SCP «Taganskiy» was fully equipped as nuclear attack sanctuary. With stocks of products, potable water and systems of air regeneration this abri could sustain lives of approximately 5000 people for several months.
At the end of eighties the nuclear tension slowly subdued and consequently SCP «Taganskiy» lost its crucial role for the country.
During next several years in a lack of the necessary funding SCP «Taganskiy» gradually lost its might. Massive armored doors and steel-covered walls are the only witnesses of the former strength and vigor of this construction.
In 2006 SCP «Taganskiy» was purchased by a private company «Novik-Service» at an auction. The new owners started a complete reconstruction at once.
Now SCP «Taganskiy» is a mere monument to the might of former Soviet Union. The ultimate goal of SCP «Taganskiy» reconstruction is to remind of the history of the two superpowers’ confrontation and to prevent any nuclear conflicts in the future.

...Getting inside the bunker is like travelling on a time-machine. As soon as you are inside, you forget that outside is the 21st century. Slightly lit tunnels, heavy steel constructions, old Soviet communication facilities, and even an “ancient” but still functional soda water machine…

...An amazing demonstration of soviet infrastructure it opened up the elusive secret world that existed which I would never imagine would be possible.
